Impala & Peacock

Earl Grey Tea

$19.00

A noble black tea base, blended with bergamot peel, bergamot essential oil, and cornflowers. This earl grey tea blend boasts a classic flavour with a lingering citrus aroma.

We source our black tea from one tea garden at a pristine mid-altitude location in Sri Lanka. The plantation is near a natural rain forest making the tea part of an active biodiverse ecosystem.

Where does our bergamot come from?

We've used natural bergamot rind and its essential oil straight from our farm partners in Calabria, Italy. They are a family run business who specialise in all things bergamot. We blend their premium bergamot and our black tea here in Melbourne to create the classic taste and aroma of earl grey.

Historians believe that the earl grey flavour was created as a gift given to the prime minister of Britain in the 1830s; the Earl Charles Grey.

A point of distinction should be made for different types of earl grey. Traditionally earl grey tea contains bergamot rind and either bergamot flavouring or essential oils (we always use essential oils). This is distinct from french earl grey which is classic earl grey with rose petals and lady grey which is classical earl grey blended with lavender. A Russian earl grey also exists which has lemongrass added to it.
